Streak-free glass with microfibre

The two-cloth method: a flat-weave cloth to clean, a dry one to finish, and a cleaner that evaporates before it can streak.

Streaks are minerals and cleaner left behind when the liquid evaporates on its own schedule. The whole method is arranged so the surface is dried by you, quickly, rather than by the air, slowly.

Steps

  1. Step 1 of 5

    Pick a flat or suede-weave cloth around 300 GSM or less, reserved exclusively for glass — white or light blue in the colour code. These leave the least lint and residue.

  2. Step 2 of 5

    If the glass is dusty, take off the loose dirt first with a separate, lightly damp cloth.

  3. Step 3 of 5

    Spray a small amount of cleaner onto the cloth — never onto the glass, where it runs into frames and seals, dries there and streaks. Pure water or a water-vinegar mix beats most blue commercial sprays, whose dyes and perfumes are what leave the film.

  4. Step 4 of 5

    Wipe in even, overlapping passes: left to right, then top to bottom.

  5. Step 5 of 5

    Immediately dry with a second, completely dry flat-weave cloth. This removes the last moisture and any faint streaking the first cloth left.

  6. The key is drying fast and completely, before the water evaporates by itself and leaves its minerals behind.
